Only Do What You're Wildly Passionate About In Your Business
You have limited time in your biz.
This is nothing new.
So why do we find ourselves spinning our wheels to fit everything in? And even when we try our hardest, we still don’t have “enough” time to spend on social media, “enough” time to attend networking events, “enough” time to do our bookkeeping.
You should only be doing the things you're wildly passionate about and that make your spirit happy in your biz.
The things that you’re good at. The things that make you money and that your customers or clients love about your biz.
I know, I know. Sounds like a dream, right? No! It can be your reality. Here’s the thing, the things we do fit into 5 categories: your product/service, your daily tasks, the “shoulds”, the “wants”, and the “somedays”.
Here’s what you can do.
By determining what these 5 buckets mean to you and actually implementing a few simple strategies, you can create a business where you are ONLY doing the things you're wildly passionate about.
Your Product or Service
Obviously, you must do the things you need to do to have a product or service in your biz otherwise there is no biz. In the beginning, it’s good to have this done by you so you can perfect the process but a lot of what goes on in the process can be outsourced (we’ll talk about that soon), and the other parts are the things I bet you really love doing.
Guess what? Things like bookkeeping, social media marketing, replying to emails, etc can be outsourced. When you sit down and really look at where your money for your biz is going you can find room for $100-150/month to hire someone to do those things for you.
Let’s reframe it this way: if you could spend $100-150/month of your biz budget to not have to do bookkeeping, social media marketing, replying to emails, etc and free up 10+ hours of your time to spend relaxing, working on big projects, spending more time with your loved ones, would you?
These are all the things people are telling you that you should do in your biz. If YouTube is all the rage and you hate video and it’s not authentic to your biz, don’t even sweat it!
And just because the founder of a multi-million dollar company says you should be getting up at 5 am every morning to be successful doesn’t mean you should do that, find what works for you and run with that.
These are the things that you want and love to do! Like going to networking happy hours, spending time with your customers or clients, and focusing on big-picture strategy.
Remember earlier when I told you to ditch everything that’s under the “shoulds” category? Yeah, all that amazing time you saved yourself should be filled with more of this category.
This is very similar to your bucket list but it’s simply everything you find yourself saying “someday” about. Someday it would be nice to make $20k in a month. I would love to go Calligraphy conference someday. Someday I’ll redo my crumby looking website.
Don’t let these things slip through the cracks and end up as regrets and “too lates”. Start making a list of these things and take action. Start writing out your $20k month plans. Book that conference. Start researching web designers or how to DIY! What are all the steps you need to take to get there? Take action!
The bottom line, my darling, is to only do the things in your biz that make your heart smile.
Life + biz are really that simple.
